The Sinfonietta Passau wind ensemble will open the concerts with Richard Strauss’s atmospheric, late-Romantic Wind Serenade. Following that, the young, highly talented soloist Carmen Sofía Leal from Chile will perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s popular Clarinet Concerto.
The second half of the concert features the masterful Symphony No. 3 by French composer Louise Farrenc, who was an admirable pioneer in her lifetime and fought for pay equity. Farrenc made history in the mid-19th century when she demanded—and ultimately received—equal pay with her male colleagues at the Paris Conservatory. Louise Farrenc’s works have been rediscovered and performed worldwide in recent years—among them, her Symphony No. 3 is her greatest success.
